Yesterday, Eddie made us a cherry pie. He is wearing one of my Pampered Chef aprons, as well as his little league baseball cap. Michael is in the background making himself some ramen noodles. Eddie made a great pie, too. He's made us promise to leave Bailey a piece, since she had to go to her father's house for this weekend.
Tom was going to drive the boys to the airport and leave his car in the overnight parking but had a nasty sinus condition that was so horrible that he'd mistaken it for toothpain. So, we all got into the minivan and I drove them to the airport. All this means is that we save on the parking fee, spend twice for fuel, and I have to make sure to be back at RSW tomorrow on time. It was sometime along the way that Tom figured out his "toothpain" was relieved by placing the icepack on his sinus target points. I had known that sinus backup can cause horrible toothpain just from the pressure but even with Tom's history of sinus trouble, it just didn't occur to me that was the problem! It's a relief that it's a sinus problem and not a tooth problem. Sinus problem is a lot cheaper to fix! He gets an evening with my parents pampering him and throwing every OTC medication possible at him to help. He'll like that.
The flight went well and my mother was waiting for them like she said she was going to be. Their Comcast hasn't been working so Tom can try to sort that out for them, too. While he's at it, he can clean up the mess my brother does on my mother's computer... if there's enough time.
Tommy hasn't been happy with his brothers gone. I think with the frequency that Bailey goes on visitations, it doesn't phase him much when she's not here for a couple days, although he's had his moments over the past year of getting very angry to see her go. He really doesn't like it when his brothers disappear. He argued against going to bed by saying we needed to go get his dad, Michael and Eddie. I think he'll be disappointed when we pick up only his daddy from the airport tomorrow. Hopefully, next summer will start a much shorter visitation period.
I don't think I really need to talk about how I'm doing, especially being alone through this. Those who know me, already know.
HIV-positive man sentenced 35 years for spitting at officer

The U.S. Government's Health and Human Services Center for Disease Control and Prevention gives us the following information about the transmission of HIV:
| |
Even when brought into contact with the eyes and mouth, saliva is not a host for transmitting the HIV virus. Due to Campbell's spit not being any deadlier than anyone else's spit, this is an unjust sentence.
On the blog Angry Black Woman, karnythia writes an article titled POC and the Politics of Medical Research. I invite everyone to read this piece for information on the subjection of people to unethical experimental treatment due to their race and class. I encourage readers to follow the links provided to learn more about the subjects that are being discussed and referenced.
On Livejournal, karnythia writes a mirror post to the ABW article. I strongly recommend reading this post and the comments that follow for additional information.
Medical Apartheid: The Dark History of Medical Experimentation on Black Americans from Colonial Times to the Present by Harriet A. Washington is recommended in the above linked post by karnythia. It is available on Amazon.com by following this [link]. It's only $10.85 and is eligible for free shipping.
I finally found the appropriate category for the Fountain of Youth in downtown Punta Gorda. It's an artesian well, thus it belongs in Artesian Wells. When it is approved by an officer, it will be Fountain of Youth - Punta Gorda, FL (WM3EXT).
There are a number of cemeteries in Charlotte County that I didn't know about. Who would have thought to look on the Public Works website for the information instead of, say, the Historical Society! The history is very unpleasant. These are cemeteries that have "historically served Charlotte County's African-American community", as the website phrases it. As a result, the records are poorly kept and the maintenance is next to none. With a horrific history that makes a reasonable person sick to learn, El Jobean Cemetery is historic and requires responsible documentation.
Tomorrow is Wednesday and I have to start researching Rennsalaer if I'm going to know what I'm waymarking and why when I arrive on Sunday.
Bailey's fever broke and now she's dealing with cold symptoms.
Seriously, what's on that plant? Michael and I walked Pennington Nature Park since we were in the neighbourhood after a freecycle pick-up. It's a 3/4 mile path in a small peninsula in the Elkcam Waterway that's protected and maintained by the Peace River Audubon Society.
As I was sifting through history editorials written by Lindsey Williams in the hopes of finding out more information on the before-mentioned Harvey House along Retta Esplande, I realised what I really want to get out of waymarking, especially posting. I'd just broke 100 waymarks, but I didn't feel right about posting anything for the sake the getting the numbers up. I didn't like the lower quality in some of the waymarks and the ones that I could not rewrite to improve, I removed from directory view. It's acceptable to post visits to your own posted waymarks, but I don't feel comfortable with it unless I have something personal that should be shared on the page. I'll be posting Notes instead of Visits for these personal sentiments. I only intend to post visits to waymarks posted by other people from this point forward. My visits now reflect this and I have removed from view the waymarks that I considered unnecessary. My bottom line is that I want someone to go to waymarking.com, fill in the 33950 zip code, and get a list of quality waymarks.
Bailey is still battling her flu. I'm afraid she'll be home from school tomorrow, something she is not happy about at all. Eddie, on the other hand, is jealous and has been trying to convince us that he's also sick, just without any symptoms.

After the loss of his beautiful pyrenees Malcolm in 2006 to cancer, Luke Robinson organised the fundraiser: 2 Dogs 2000 Miles.
With his two dogs, Hudson and Murphy, Robinson will be walking from Austin to Boston, respectively 2,400 miles, to raise awareness and money for a nationwide epidemiological canine cancer study to find the reasons behind what causes cancer in animals and people. This study will be managed by the Animal Cancer Foundation.
Please visit the website 2 Dogs 2000 Miles for more information and links concerning this event, the fundraising, and what you can do to help.
My husband was injured at work on Tuesday and has been home in pain ever since. It's not the expected injury. His spine and his hips are perfectly fine, which makes sense because he's done his job using all the precautions he was taught. So, this is a new muscle-related condition that happened even with all his precautions. Since we don't have insurance until he's three months into the job, he wanted to wait to see if it would go away overnight.
On Wednesday, I took him to Fawcett Memorial Hospital's Emergency Room and his father paid the bill, after Peace River Medical Center refused to treat him for lack of insurance. He received an injection for pain and a couple prescriptions: a muscle relaxer and vicodin. After paying for those medications out-of-pocket, he settled in to let the medications help him out and get past this thing.
Now it's Friday and he's still too cramped to sit or walk for any duration of time, even with the prescription-strength muscle relaxer and prescription-strength pain killer. Three days out of work and there's been no compromise on either his or his supervisor's part to give him any remote jobs. I don't understand that. He can still work from his back on his laptop. He just can't move! I've been recommending that he call New Hope Natural Healing Center, where his mother goes for massages and acupuncture. It was the chiropractor at this place that got Tom a standing MRI and identified his herniated discs in 2005, before they knew his hips were broken. Since this is a muscle problem, I think acupuncture will resolve the problem. His parents might help us out with that expense.
I really miss having health insurance.
EDIT: The day has just happened to work to where Cheech will be able to treat him (acupuncture) at 3:30pm.
We went out to Englewood Beach for the morning. It showered some but nothing too extreme. We brought a picnic basket to have sub sandwiches and chips but the seagulls were swarming to such a degree that mothers began protecting their toddlers from the fowl hordes. The children had a wonderful time swimming and playing in the Gulf waves. Tommy gave the water a good try but preferred to stay in the sand and let me take his picture.
After we all had our fill of the beach, we stopped at the State Forest Preserve just outside of North Port city limits and had our picnic lunch in a secluded eating area of the park that wasn't too far of a walk from the parking area. The camping area was significant. No vehicles allowed beyond the parking area, a camper must backpack a good couple miles to the first campsite. Not for family camping but I bet the Boy Scouts use it often.
We showered everybody up at home and everyone was supposed to take a nap. As it turned out, Tom just took his nap, the kids relaxed and watched some Drake & Josh on Nickelodeon, and I planned a geocache hide.
As evening approached, Tom and I geared the minivan back up for fireworks. Before going to the fireworks site, we hid a cache in a little known local park and let the children play for a bit. As I submitted the cache page for approval just before starting this post, I noticed the waymarking code ends in "ED". It has to get published now! After the hide, we went to pick up a quick Park & Grab cache from the Publix parkinglot in North Port, right down the road from where the fireworks were. We were surprised to see the lot nearly full of tailgaters. So, we picked a spot right next to the cache, and parked ourselves for the show.
The children loved the fireworks! We sat in the back of the minivan and watched the whole show! It was a bit worrisome when the lightning became stronger and the rain began to sprinkle but the weather waited patiently for the grand finale.
Since we still needed to grab the cache that we had parked next to, we waited for all the tailgaters to traffic jam their way out of the parkinglot. We grabbed it and brought it back to the car to sign the logbook. It was then that we realised the battery was dead. Apparently, sitting with the rear door open for two hours is a really bad idea. While Tom grabbed help from the gas station next door, I finished signing the log and put the cache back in its hiding spot. Two nice guys in a beaten down pick-up gave us a jump.
Having a working car again, we shot down to Sonic for ice cream. The day had finally caught up with all the children. None finished their sundaes and Tommy went directly to bed from the car since he'd fallen asleep on the way home.
It was a good Fourth. Happy Fourth to you all!! I hope yours was just as wonderful!
Tomorrow, we are scheduled to pick up Anna from Largo in the morning. In the afternoon, I'm taking Michael, Eddie and Bailey to see Transformers on a matinée. The movie schedule on Yahoo!movies says that it's 2 hours and 23 minutes long. That's a long movie! It's amazing to remember what Transformers were when I was growing up. They're very different now. At least Michael likes to hear me go on and on about how things "used to be."
I also need to get Ed in to see the doctor. His cold took his voice today and I just want to make sure he's not developing something horrible. If his father takes him before he sees the doctor, it's likely my baby won't get diagnosed or treated at all until he's back home, and who knows what condition his body would be in by then.
I'm going to go watch Sex In The City over-edited syndications on network tv and go to sleep in preparation for tomorrow. I hope to pick up one of those free iced coffees from McDonald's. I can't seem to get there during the times that they're offering them!
